Sobotka Scholarship Applications Sought

Glendive, Montana, February 5, 2013 - The Glendive Medical Center (GMC) Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2013 Sobotka Scholarship Award. One $5,000 award will be given to a student who is half way through their program of study in a medical field.

This scholarship was created in 2004 by the Foundation after Auggie and Mary Sobotka made a generous planned gift to the hospital. A total of seven $5,000 awards have been made since then. Past recipients include Katie Siegle, Brent Dion, Mariah Linn, Darcy Engle, Lindsay Lassle and Stephanie Ohs, all graduates of Dawson County High School. In addition, Shara Bushman, a Wibaux County High School graduate, and Tiffany Kniepkamp, a graduate of Circle High School, received the award. All of these young people chose careers in the field of health care.

The criteria established for applicants are as follows:

a) must be in a medical professional program with emphasis on specific needs of our area,
b) must be enrolled in an accredited institution as a full-time student in a four-year baccalaureate program or at the graduate level,
c) must provide proof of enrollment showing completion of half of the program in which they are enrolled, and
d) must submit a sealed, official transcript with proof of a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.

To apply, students may go to the GMC web site, and from the Foundation page download the PDF file for the application. Applicants are asked to write a 250 word essay on their motivation to enter the field of health care. In addition, the Foundation asks for three written references. Applications should be submitted to: Carol Condon, GMC Foundation Director, 202 Prospect Drive, Glendive, MT 59330.

The deadline for applications to be received in the Foundation office is Monday, April 15. Preference will be given to students interested in working in eastern Montana. For questions about the Foundation scholarship program at GMC, please call Carol Condon at (406) 345-8996.
