Glendive Medical Center Hires Psychiatrist

Glendive, Montana, August 6, 2018 - In the midst of a growing mental health crisis in Montana, Glendive Medical Center is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Kara Larsen, Psychiatrist, to their team of Behavioral Health specialists. Dr. Larsen will begin seeing patients on Thursday, August 9th in Gabert Clinic.

"I chose Glendive Medical Center as the administration and staff are very caring," states Dr. Larsen, "Montana is my home, so I knew I wanted to come back to my roots and practice here, however, the biggest reason I chose Glendive Medical Center is the mental health crisis that is happening in Montana and especially in Eastern Montana. I want to be part of the solution".

Dr. Larsen grew up in Bozeman, MT, the daughter of a doctor and a nurse. She set out for a career outside of healthcare after attending MSU and graduating with a Chemical Engineering degree. During her final year, however, she became ill and doctors couldn't quite figure out what was wrong with her. This led to her intrigue with the human body and eventually, studying medicine at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences where she obtained a degree as a Doctor of Osteopathy. "While in med school, I became very interested in the mind and its connection to the body," stated Dr. Larsen, "I decided to investigate psychiatry and it was a natural fit for me." She recently finished her psychiatric residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic in Iowa City, IA.

Dr. Larsen treats an array of disorders but feels her strengths lie in treating individuals with depression, anxiety, bi-polar, and borderline personality disorders. "Patients need someone to help and advocate for them as so many are misunderstood. I am happy to be in Glendive and help with the tremendous need for mental healthcare in this region".

In her spare time, Dr. Larsen enjoys sewing, reading, singing, tennis, and skiing. She is hopeful that she will be able to learn how to ride a motorcycle one day as well. She feels Glendive is a friendly and caring community and is looking forward to living and working in a rural area.

"Dr. Larsen is a wonderful asset to our growing staff," states Parker Powell, CEO. "We understand the need for mental health services on this side of the state and are strategically working to fill that void".
