Glendive Medical Center Adds Temporary Additional Family Medicine Providers
Glendive, Montana, September 8, 2016 - Glendive Medical Center (GMC) recently welcomed two Family Medicine Providers who will provide temporary coverage for the next several months at Gabert Clinic.
Kelly Rhodes, MD cares for patients of all ages. Ericca Berry, Nurse Practitioner cares for patients of all ages with an emphasis on pediatric patients.
According to a report from the Association of American Medical Colleges, by 2025 the nation will face a potential shortage of between 14,900 and 35,600 primary care physicians. Non-primary care specialties are expected to experience a shortfall of between 37,400 and 60,300 physicians. In a report put out by the Montana Office of Rural Health (MORH) a serious shortage of primary care physician services is cited in Montana. The distribution of physicians in Montana is extremely uneven with 37% of all primary care physicians practicing in only three cities and 40 of Montana's 56 counties are designated health professional shortage areas.
These shortages are most felt in rural communities. Because of the potential physician shortages, especially in rural communities, GMC has made a strong commitment to recruiting additional new physicians and providers.
"We are working hard to recruit new providers to the Glendive community," said Sam Hubbard, VP of Operations for GMC. "We want to provide access to care for our community so that medical needs can be met here, close to home. We are thankful for Dr. Rhodes and Ericca's commitment to fill our temporary need, but we are hopeful we will be able to announce permanent providers in the near future."
