Glendive Medical Center Receives Murdock Grant For State-Of-The-Art Mammography Machine

Glendive, Montana, December 29, 2017 - Glendive Medical Center (GMC) and the GMC Foundation are pleased to announce that they have been awarded another large grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. The $282,000 award will pay a portion of the cost to install new 3D mammography and fluoroscopy equipment in GMC's Imaging Services. In addition to the M. J. Murdock grant, the GMC Foundation and Auxiliary will also contribute to the equipment purchase.

"The work of Jack Murdock's Trust has been such a blessing for the western United States," commented Carol Condon, GMC Foundation Director. "Back in 2011, we received $250,000 for the 128-slice CT scanner, and now we are so proud to have their help with 3D mammography. Not only do I appreciate their financial support, but I have also seen how much help they are for small nonprofits across rural Montana. The Trust is known for sending their top staff members to our area for nonprofit training."

Strategically over the past two years, Glendive Medical Center has worked to enhance services for women and children. New providers have been hired in the areas of obstetrics, gynecology and pediatrics, and services have been added that allow patients to access higher levels of care close to home. The arrival of this equipment will complete the women and children's project.

The M. J. Murdock Charitable Trust was created by the will of the late Melvin J. "Jack" Murdock, who was a co founder of Tektronix, Inc. in Beaverton, Oregon, and a resident of Vancouver, Washington. Since its establishment in June 1975, with a bequest of about $90 million, the Trust has focused its grant making efforts primarily in five states of the Pacific Northwest: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. The Trust's current assets are valued at $1 billion, and over the life of the trust, more than $900 million has been distributed through more than 6,000 grants.
