Third Annual “Let’s Get Squished” Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run Scheduled for First Weekend of October

Glendive, Montana, September 17, 2019 - The streets will be swirling with pink in a few weeks as the third annual “Let’s Get Squished” Breast Cancer Awareness 5K Walk/Run commences. Glendive Medical Center (GMC) is hosting the event on Saturday, October 5^th and is encouraging attendees to wear pink and rock their 80s gear this year as part of their 80s theme.

Due to increased attendance, the Walk/Run will take place at the Moose Lodge located at 415 N. Merrill Avenue. “We are very fortunate the Loyal Order of Moose donated the building for our event,” stated Jaime Shanks, GMC Marketing/Foundation Director. Check in will begin at 8am with the walk/run promptly starting at 9am. Three different routes will be marked to accommodate various levels of endurance, all leaving and returning to the Moose Lodge. The one mile and two mile routes are on mostly level ground, while the 5K does have a slight incline. Immediately following the walk/run, attendees will reconvene back at the Moose Lodge where a selection of pastries and fruit, along with coffee and water, will be provided. The second half of the event will include guest speakers, testimonies, the latest information on breast health and breast cancer, a silent auction, and distribution of swag bags. The event should wrap up before noon.

“We are very excited to add something very special this year,” stated Jaime, “We are honoring breast cancer survivors during the event and are asking anyone in the area that plans to attend to let us know if they are a survivor. We have a special gift for them and if they are willing, we would like them to share their testimony – either verbally or written.” Those planning to attend and that are breast cancer survivors can call the Marketing/Foundation receptionist at 345-8996 to confirm their registration.

Mrs. Shanks is encouraging those that want to attend to register early to guarantee a commemorative shirt. Cost of registration is $25/Adult and $15/Youth (Ages 3-12; 2 and under are free). Attendees can register at the Chamber of Commerce, Foundation/Marketing house (202 Ames Wye – located behind the hospital), or online at EventBrite.com (search for “Let’s Get Squished”). All proceeds raised will be kept local to provide care baskets and needed items for breast cancer patients at Glendive Medical Center.
